The Ninth People's Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, is Shanghai's designated institution for dental care for senior officials. The department of oral mucosal diseases is a key specialty of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a flagship department of the national program for integrating Western and Chinese medicine; the department of vascular surgery is in the first group of national training bases for peripheral vascular interventional treatment; tissue engineering and maxillofacial surgery are Shanghai key (priority) disciplines, prosthodontics and biomaterials are Shanghai key (specialized) disciplines, and basic stomatology and ophthalmology are Shanghai key disciplines; plastic and reconstructive surgery is a Shanghai top-priority clinical medical center; rehabilitation medicine, emergency medicine, and intensive care are designated as important weak links of Shanghai's healthcare system to be strengthened; and traditional Chinese medicine for oral mucosal diseases is a new interdisciplinary TCM discipline in Shanghai.
